About Stevie & the Gang

Our COVID-Style Cabaret

Three of Minnesota’s most beloved improv comedians are teaming up to bring laughter back to CDT! Stevie & the Gang features Stevie Ray, Brett Williams, and pianist Matt Dorland from Stevie Ray’s Comedy Cabaret at their home in the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. Enjoy audience-interactive improv, stand-up comedy and music every Friday and Saturday at 8pm in the Fireside Theatre. Not only is the seating distance safer, so is the comedy – no profanity and no politics. With everything going on in the world today, you owe it to yourself to have a night of fun. CDT has your health in mind, so you can relax and enjoy Stevie & the Gang. The funniest things in life are three!

Capacity is limited to 25% to achieve required social distancing.  Dinner is served before the show in a separate dining room.  Mask use is required at all times in the theatre.

Meet the Gang

Stevie Ray

Stevie Ray

Stevie performed his first show at the age of nine and has been making people laugh ever since, touring the country as an improvisational and stand-up comedian. He has opened for such stars as Paula Poundstone, Marsha Warfield of Night Court, Rich Hall of Saturday Night Live, and “Weird Al” Yankovic.  A former bodyguard, one client was Pee Wee Herman (yes, really).

Brett Williams

Brett Williams

The cast member most closely resembling Benicio Del Toro, Brett started training at Stevie Ray’s in October of 2000 and rose to troupe membership very quickly. His stage energy has been used to power small townships, and the Xcel Company is considering a franchise option. Brett is also the creator and star of the hit trivia game show, MatchWits with Brett Williams.

Matt Dorland

Matt Dorland

Matt started his musical journey at the ripe old age of six when he began plunking out tunes on an old piano in his parent’s basement.  He performs regularly with his jazz trio at coffeehouses, bars and breweries across the Twin Cities, as well as for weddings, parties and corporate events (in addition to teaching 30+ students out of his studio.)

Stevie Ray's Presents: We Three Kings of Comedy

A Holiday Variety Show

The funny folks at Stevie Ray’s Improv Comedy have created a new show for the holidays. Featuring comedy sketches, music, and improv, celebrate the season with laughter. Three of our best troupe members, Kip Hathaway, Rex Isom Jr., and Ellie Walton are joined by Music Director/Pianist Matt Dorland; all under the direction of Joseph Harstad.

Fridays & Saturdays, November 27 – December 26, 2020

Meet the Cast

Rex Isom Jr.

Rex Isom Jr.

For close to 30 years, Rex has been an entertainer, improvisor, actor and educator.  You may have seen him in shows around the Twin Cities at Penumbra Theatre, Brave New Workshop and the American History Theatre. He also performed in sketches and improv in Los Angeles. He has been with Stevie Ray’s for close to a decade because, as he puts it, he’s “diggin’ that vibe, homies!”

Kip Hathaway

Kip Hathaway

A graduate of Theater from Lawrence University, Kip is the newest member of the Stevie Ray’s family, but has quickly become an audience favorite. An award-winning actor in the Twin Cities, Kip has produced his own rock opera and appeared in short films and music videos. Even with all those accomplishments, Kip’s proudest moment was eating his height in corn dogs at the Minnesota State Fair.

Ellie Walton

Ellie Walton

A graduate of the University of Northwestern, St. Paul in Music and Theater, Ellie joined the Stevie Ray’s family in 2017 where she has delighted audiences at Stevie Ray’s Comedy Cabaret as well as Improv in the Park and corporate/private events. Outside of Stevie Ray’s, Ellie teaches voice and improv and is a professional commercial actor in the Twin Cities and beyond.

Joseph Harstad, Associate Director  Joe has comedy and improv in his blood. He grew up under the tutelage of Artistic Director, Pamela Mayne, and started training at the ripe old age of fifteen. Since then, he has directed performances at Stevie Ray’s Comedy Cabaret, and attained the role of Master Instructor and Director of Stevie Ray’s School of Improv. As Associate Director, he has also directed special productions at Stevie Ray’s, including Mistletoe Mischief, and Stevie & the Gang.
