Everybody loves a good laugh, but too many comedy shows rely on profanity and offensive content to shock the audience. At Stevie Ray’s, we believe that good comedy doesn’t have to make you squirm in your seat. Also, we know that the Twin Cities has some of the funniest comedians in the country (Louie Anderson and Maria Bamford got their start here), so we’ve selected some of the best that good ol’ Minnesota has to offer, and put together a comedy revue that will leave your cheeks sore.
Since making the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres our permanent home in 2010, we have listened to the cheers and applause the audience gives the musicals on their Main Stage. We looked around our own troupe and realized that we have some great singers and musicians of our own, so we decided it was time for us to go Broadway. But we are staying true to our improv roots. This full-length musical is based entirely on audience suggestions. The characters, plot, even the songs, will all be created on the spot. We may not replace Fiddler on the Roof or Mamma Mia!, but you will laugh the night away, and might even leave humming a new tune.
For the blind and visually impaired to enjoy an evening’s entertainment, they either have to imagine what is happening onstage or listen to an audio description of the action. Stevie Ray’s has created an entire improv comedy show that features auditory humor only—no description needed. But, instead of the blind leading the blind, the blind will lead the show. All the comedy will be based on audience suggestions. Sighted guests will enjoy the show just as much because, as Victor Borge said, “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”
This performance is presented in partnership with the State Services for the Blind of Minnesota.
