Aretha and Her Men
Featuring Gwen Matthews, Kathleen Johnson, Gevonee Ford, Tiawynee Purnell-Finger & Brandon Hess
A fabulous show featuring the music of Aretha Franklin! Based on actual duets (and some wishful ones) with her favorite male vocalists through the years that inspired the Queen of Soul throughout her storied career. This show will surely bring you joy and just might excite you into singing along with many of her favorite songs – along with stories featuring the men that crossed paths with Ms. Franklin.
It features some of the best vocalists in the Twin Cities including Gevonee Ford and Brandon Hess – both singing with the divas themselves – Gwen Matthews, Kathleen Johnson & Tiawynee Purnell-Finger. The band also features music director and vocalist William E. Duncan, James Towns on bass, Steve Griff on guitar, José James on percussion/saxophone and Peter Suttman on drums. A truly great line up of Twin Cities talent!
You’ll hear songs like “A Change is Gonna Come,” “Ooo Baby Baby,” “Respect,” “This Old Heart of Mine,” “Try a Little Tenderness,” “Love all the Hurt Away,” “Call Me,” “What Y’all Came To Do”, “Border Song,” “Until You Come Back to Me,” “Natural Woman” and more!
